, Question 1
Read the case study below and answer the questions that follow:

Linda works as a training facilitator and has always been recognized for her exceptional
work ethic. Recently, a new manager was employed, Mark, who is Linda’s direct boss.
Contrary to her positive experiences with her colleagues and previous bosses, Linda
finds working with Mark very challenging. Via e-mails, Mark belittles Linda’s opinions
and often alludes to her recommendations not being good enough. In person, he makes
remarks such as “I can’t believe you actually studied for this job” or “a two-year old
could have come up with these ideas”. He also fails to give her credit when the
managerial team are impressed with the work she has produced. Although Linda tried
confiding in her colleagues about how she is being treated by Mark, no one believes
her, as he is always friendly towards her in front of others. Mark also speaks very poorly
about Linda to her colleagues and tells them that he really tries to help her where he
can, but that he has to make substantial changes to her work and refers to her as “the
lazy one”. Linda has since been given tasks that are similar to that of her interns’ job
description and is expected to bring coffee to his office whenever he requests it.
