, Question 1
Read the scenario below and answer the questions that follow.
You are the General Manager of a large retail superstore situated in Centurion,
Gauteng. The superstore has a staff complement of two hundred (200) employees and
is the most profitable superstore in the group. This has been attributed to your
understanding of the unique traits possessed by each of your employees, who in turn
use their respective traits to the benefit of the superstore.

1.1 Elaborate on the importance of employee’s unique traits, and briefly explain how
these traits are used to the benefit of the superstore. (20 marks)

Chapter 16: Section 16.2 – p. 352
• Traits can be unique to individuals in a specific culture or group. 
• Furthermore, certain unique traits are peculiar to individuals. 
• However, most people share common traits to a greater or lesser extent. 
• An example of a unique trait is that of a person who is excitable or reacts
anxiously to situations. 
• Personal dispositions are unique to each individual and characterise true
personality, distinguishing people from each another. 
• Personal dispositions denote central personal dispositions or traits,
characterising the uniqueness of individuals. 
• Many people share central personal dispositions such as honesty, kindness,
generosity, friendliness, energy and confidence.
• These are common traits, but due to genetic neurophysiological attributes
possessed by a person, personal dispositions are uniquely manifested in this
person. 

• The theory of central personal traits permits comparisons between people,
since unique manifestations exist in each person. 
• Certain behaviours consist of a combination of personal traits.
