The syllabus for the UPSc exams is something that a lot of
candidates actually end up ignoring. The prelim study that you
need to do comes from the main syllabus, which is the best
guide to study for UPSc. If you are not using the main syllabus
while studying for prelims, you are misguided because neither
you are preparing for mains nor prelims properly. Second, you
have to keep in mind there is a paper to be done in prelims,
which is also known as Csat and which includes
comprehension. The qualifying papers require only 25 marks in
this so it is very easy to pass. The preliminary from the mains
exam syllabus requires only understanding the syllabus. After
that, you need to get into the deeper details of every topic so I
used to give numbers printed out and give numbers to all these
different topics.
The "hidden syllabus" of the U.P.S.C. means that there are
topics that they don't explicitly tell you about - like differences
between India and the United States in terms of topics that are
covered now, as well as more obscure subtopics like Supreme
Court cases which students will need to be familiar with in
order to pass the G.S.2 exam. Understanding the syllabus of
G.S.2 is essential for success on the U.P.S.C., and I will create a
video specifically addressing this topic later on. However, this
should give you a good starting point in terms of studying for
the U.P.S.C.'s G.S.2 exam- understanding important Supreme
Court cases and economic development topics is important!
