Week 8 Learning Outcomes
1. Discuss the nursing role in the prevention and transmission of infectious respiratory
conditions in the hospital and in community settings.
2. Identify abnormal respiratory assessments and priority nursing Interventions in
managing the client with a respiratory disorder
3. Assess current issues, trends and research related to respiratory infections.
4. Discuss the lived experience of a client and/or family living with a respiratory infection.

5. Demonstrates critical thinking and clinical reasoning in establishing priorities to meet
clients’ assessment needs and preferences.
6. Explore the role of the nurse in collaborating with the client, family and inter-
professional team to develop a plan of care for a client experiencing a respiratory
infection.
7. Demonstrate knowledge of the nursing process and identifies actual and potential
nursing diagnoses based on assessment data findings when developing a care plan.
8. Using a case study, apply the nursing process to establish nursing priorities, nursing
diagnosis, client expected goals/outcomes,
nursing interventions, and evaluation for a client with a respiratory infection.
9. Examine the nursing implications for the administration of medications used to treat
tuberculosis.
10. Evaluate best practice guidelines related to smoking cessation and adult asthma care.
11. Demonstrate leadership in teaching and learning principles by implementing and
evaluating client health teaching to improve client/family self-management of a chronic
respiratory condition.
12. Analyze the role of the nurse in collaborating with the client, family and
interprofessional team to develop a plan of care for a client experiencing reactive
and/or obstructive airway disorders.
13. Respond to client assessment findings, client preferences, plan and implement tailored
nurse interventions to meet client desired goals/outcomes.
