Effective Health and Safety Management of Contractors For this report I have chosen a construction organization working on a major civils project building a sky rail. In this organization there are many different contractors and sub-contractors being used to complete a range of different jobs, trades and services. This includes earthworks contractors, logistical contractors, electrical and plumbing contractors, crane, formwork, concrete and steel fixing sub-contractors, etc. In order to manage the health and safety of all contractors effectively it is crucial that all existing contractor health and safety arrangements are identified, that their arrangements are fully assessed and evaluated and that any improvements that may need to be made to the arrangements in order to meet the standards of the organization are identified and implemented. Identifying existing contractor health and safety arrangement The first step is to identify the contractors involved in this organization and their health and safety arrangements. The services from larger contractors are rather easy to identify as the service they provide is normally done under a written contract. However, there are many different smaller services that may slip under the radar, it is important that all services being supplied to the organization are recognized. We can do this by creating a register of services supplied by contractors. This register will give information on;  The services provided by contractors  Show details of any preferred contractors and approved contractors  List the details of the agreements made with contractors  Record any health and safety issues that are relevant to the services It is also important to check over these contracts and ensure that they comply with health and safety legislation, if there is anything in the contract that contradicts legislation then it in not legal, making the contract illegal. In most cases where there is a written contract we can easily access contracts, contract documentations, information and data to identify the contractor health and safety arrangements. In the case where there is no written contracts we can  Documents such as emails, invoices, minutes of meetings and telephone records showing evidence of agreements made between contractor and organisation  Interviewing relevant personnel from the contractors organisation  Interviewing relevant personnel from our own organisation
