Unit 1: Identify Variable Types and Values Dr. Jardines Statistics Herzing University Variable Types and Values Looking over the information in the Heart Rate Dataset in excel, I was able to evaluate and identify all the different variables. The three variables used are: 1. Sex (Male/Female) - Qualitative 2. Resting heart rate – Quantitative continuous 3. Heart rate after exercise – Quantitative continuous For the variable Sex, or female/male, this is recorded as a 0 or 1. The 0 equals a male, and the 1 equals a female. Female/male is a qualitative variable because it cannot be measured with numbers. It can only be added up to how many people participated. The resting heart rate is quantitative continuous because the data can be measured by exact numbers. The possible values in the dataset, for the resting heart rate, is anywhere from 59 to 97.3 for both males and females. The heart rate after exercise is quantitative continuous because it is calculated by exact numbers. These numbers were tracked for both male and female participants. The after exercise range of heart rates for males and females was anywhere from 68.2 to 106.7. The female and male variable is going to give a qualitative data to help show where our sample data was gathered. This data would most likely be displayed as a pie graph since there are no actual numbers. The before and after exercise heart rates are going to be quantitative data that will be able to give us specific numbers in our dataset. These numbers will be able to be split up between males and females and should provide a good range of comparison.
