, Section A: Knowledge-based Questions
Question 1
In your own words, explain why story telling – whether in oral or written form – is
important to human beings.

Storytelling, whether in oral or written form, is important to human beings for a variety
of reasons. First and foremost, stories help us to make sense of the world around us
by providing us with a framework for understanding the events and experiences of our
lives. Stories also allow us to connect with one another on a deep emotional level, as
we share in the joys and sorrows of the characters we encounter in literature and
mythology.

Furthermore, storytelling has been a vital part of human culture since the beginning
of time, serving as a means of passing down knowledge, history, and tradition from
one generation to the next. Through storytelling, we are able to preserve our cultural
heritage and keep alive the stories and values that are important to us as a society.

Finally, stories provide us with a means of escape from our everyday lives, allowing
us to explore new worlds and perspectives that we might not otherwise have access
to. Whether we are reading a novel, watching a movie, or listening to a bedtime story,
storytelling allows us to step outside of ourselves and experience something new and
exciting.

Overall, storytelling is a fundamental aspect of what it means to be human, allowing us
to connect with one another, understand our world, and explore new possibilities.

Question 2
In your own words, explain the difference between realism and non-fiction.

Realism and non-fiction are two different modes of representing reality in literature,
film, and other forms of art.

Realism is a literary movement that emerged in the 19th century and is characterized
by its focus on representing reality as it is, without idealizing or romanticizing it.
Realistic works often depict the lives of ordinary people and their everyday struggles,
and they strive to convey a sense of authenticity and verisimilitude. Realism is a
fictional mode of representation, meaning that the characters, events, and settings
depicted in realistic works are imagined by the author.

Non-fiction, on the other hand, is a factual mode of representation that is concerned
with accurately depicting real people, events, and phenomena. Non-fiction can take
many forms, including memoirs, biographies, histories, scientific studies, and
journalistic accounts. Unlike realism, non-fiction is based on actual events and
people, and it seeks to convey an objective, factual account of the world.
