ITN 100 - Northern Virginia Community College _ Module 04_ CH4 Hands-on Activity: Capturing Packets
Module 04: CH4 Hands-on Activity: Capturing Packets 1. Screenshot similar to figure 4.11 on p. 107: 2. Screenshot similar to figure 4-12 on p.108: 3. In this assignment the purpose is that we got to look inside the packets and was able to monitor packet transmissions by using Wireshark. This information of being able to capture and read packets is also great knowledge for those who are interested in the networking field where you will be doing troubleshooting network in fields such as network administrators. Another huge purpose of capturing packets is that it is also something that is used to look at the networking traffic to see if there are any security threats, also if there are any data breaches by looking at the packets can be vital for investigation usage, so I feel like this assignment was very vital to know. In the first step, I basically had to look at Figure 4.11 on p. 107 in our book and I had to open Wireshark and take a screenshot of what it looks like in the book. In the next step, I had to follow the steps in the book which is step #2 in the book from a-c. Letter a says to click capture, b says click interfaces, and c says click the capture button beside your Wireshark connection. On the next step I had to have the Wireshark running so that I can type on my web browser and I let Wireshark capture some packets for about 30 seconds and then when I was done, I stopped capturing the packets. In the first screenshot It shows the Ethereal capture interfaces and the descriptions of each connection.
