STRUCTURE:
ATOMS:
ATOMS:
- An atom is the smallest part of an element that can exist.
- All substances are made from atoms
- All atoms are made up of tiny nuclei with electrons
orbiting around it.
ELEMENTS:
- Elements are made from one type of atom.
- It is a PURE SUBSTANCE.
TYPES OF ELEMENTS:
- Metals - Left & centre of the periodic table.
-Non-Metals - Mostly on the right of the periodic
table.
-Metalloids - In between the metals & non-metals.
METALLOIDS:
-Metalloids are SEMI - METALS and have properties of both metals & non-
metals.
COMPOUNDS:
• A compound contains 2 or more
elements chemically combined in
FIXED PROPORTIONS.
- It is a PURE SUBSTANCE.
MIXTURE:
-A mixture is 2 or more elements or compounds
mixed together but not chemically bonded.
-It is an IMPURE SUBSTANCE.
MOLECULE:
-A molecule is 2 or more atoms chemically bonded together.
