Iedereen heeft wel eens last van angst.
Je hoeft waarschijnlijk niet lang na te denken om je een situatie te herinneren waarbij je
angstig was: een moeilijk examen, praten met iemand die je niet kent, ..
Angst is normaal. Nooit angst voelen zou zelfs slecht zijn, want angst kan je
waarschuwen voor gevaar.
Angst kan voortkomen uit een ervaring en kan evolueren in een angststoornis indien
deze ervaring op een bepaalde manier geïnterpreteerd wordt.
Vrees en angst (Fear vs Anxiety) – onmiddellijke vs toekomstige bedreiging.

Angst:
o anticipatie op toekomstig gevaar
o een reactie op de perceptie van bedreiging
o Angst is één van onze basisemoties (aangeboren + universeel).

Lichamelijke uitingen van angst
zijn het gevolg van verhoogde “arousal”:
‘code red’=alarmfase rood (fight - flight - freeze)
“alle hens aan dek”
Invloed op levensfuncties => slaapstoornissen, verteringsproblemen, verminderd libido,
vermoeidheid

‘Obsessieve-compulsieve stoornis’, ‘Posttraumatische-stressstoornis’ en de ‘Acute
stressstoornis’ vallen NIET onder angststoornissen.
‘Separatieangststoornis’ en ‘selectief mutisme’ behoren vanaf nu bij de angststoornissen.
Het criterium dat de stoornis voor het 18de jaar moet beginnen is weggevallen.
Voor ‘Specifieke fobie’ en ‘Sociale angststoornis (sociale fobie)’ is het criterium dat de
patiënt de angst zelf onredelijk en buitenproportioneel moet vinden weggevallen en de
vereiste dat het 6 maanden moet duren voor alle leeftijden erbij is gekomen.
