Clinical settings - sterile, indifferent
• Example: quarantine settings
• Pro - easy to control, sterile, minimalistic (easy to monitor animal)
• Con - limited enrichment and hiding areas, could lead to poor welfare long term
Artificial settings - a replication of there natural habitat
• Example - artificial plants
• Pro - replicates wild environment, encourage natural behaviours, easier to maintain th
varieties, cheap.
• Con - doesn’t fully replicate wild, may not be fully suitable eg injuries?
Natural setting - existing in or derived from nature.
• Example - live plant
• Pro - Encourage natural behaviours and representative of wild.
• Con - difficult to keep clean and maintain, may be unsterile, expensive, harvest parasit
Macro- environment - space outside the primary enclosure
Micro- environment - physical environment surrounding the animal
