C++ is a highly popular programming language that is widely used by large companies and government
agencies such as Adobe, Google, Microsoft, Netflix, and NASA. This language is the choice for building
performance critical applications such as video games, device drivers, web browsers, servers, and
operating systems. Its influence on other programming languages like C# and Java is significant.
According to indeed.com, the average salary for a C++ programmer in the US is over $170,000 per
year, making it a great investment and a doorway to a promising career. To master the C++ language,
besides the syntax or grammar of the language, one needs to learn its standard library, which is a vital
collection of pre-written code that provides functionality required by many applications. The C++
standard library is the most commonly used collection used to build applications that need to be fast
and use memory efficiently. It has led to many software engineers to develop software, making it a
great tool for software engineering students. While C++ may seem intimidating, one does not need to
learn all of its features to write substantial programs. In this course, students learn about the major
functionalities of the standard library, which is significant, and an Integrated Development
Environment (IDE), containing an editor for writing code, as well as build and debug tools. Students
can download the free version of Clion from jetbrains.com/clion/download or use one of the free
alternatives. Additionally, there are books written explicitly on this topic that students can use to
learn more. The focus of this course is on the C++ language itself, and students get plenty of exercises
to help them understand and remember the concepts they learn.

This tutorial is the first hour of a complete C++ series. In C++, we use the stream insertion operator to
write a sequence of characters on the standard output. The complete course contains three parts with
each part lasting between three to four hours. As part of a tax return scenario, we need to calculate
the state tax and county tax rates for an income of $95,000. C++ is a case-sensitive language and we
need to ensure that we specify the type of value that is being returned in a function. The main
function should return a value of type int representing a whole number. The zero value represents
that our program terminated correctly. The standard library serves as a container for currently
available features, which we can import and use for our program. Console applications are easier to
create and are recommended for individuals learning a new language. Once we understand the basics
of C++, we can write applications with graphical user interfaces. Patience is an essential skill for a
good programmer, so paying attention to details is crucial. We can also customize the appearance of
the development environment, such as changing the theme, to our liking.

C++ is a case sensitive language, which means it is sensitive to uppercase and lowercase letters; so
make sure to type exactly as shown. The main function returns an integer, which is a whole number
like 0, 1, 2, 3 and so on; within the braces we have written the code for this function. The value that
this function returns tells the operating system if our program terminated successfully or not. The
standard library has different files each serving a purpose; as you go through the course you will learn
more about the other files in the standard library. To create a console application, which is easier for
people learning a new language, remember patience is the first skill of a good programmer; if your
code does not get compiled pay close attention to this video. Once you understand the basics of C++,
you will be ready to move on to writing applications with a graphical user interface if that is what you
want. Additionally, the complete C++ tutorial series includes three parts that explore various concepts
such as data types, decision making statements, loops, functions, arrays, pointers, strings, structures,
enumerations, streams, classes, exceptions, templates, templates containers, and more. By the end of
