SELF-ASSESSMENT & REFLECTION Nursing informatics (NI) has become an integral part of nursing and is used in several different ways to enhance clinical workflow and patient care. NI aims at improving the quality of care by integrating computer science, information management, and cognitive science into the nursing process while remaining current with the everyday advancements of technology (Fung, 2016). My perceived competency level before, and after I took the Pre-TANIC Self-Assessment questionnaire, was surprisingly different. After taking the Pre-TANIC Self-Assessment, I realized that I was more competent in informatics that I had initially thought. Informatics has a lot to do with basic computer skills, which I am very proficient in. Unfortunately, I have not yet had any work experience, so I am not as experienced in the clinical aspect of informatics. I had a baby right after graduation, so I have not officially worked as a registered nurse yet, however; I have had lots of clinical experience as a student nurse and intern. Two competencies that I used during my clinical student nurse role are computer skills and information literacy.
