Measures To Reduce Risks – Spam Filters

One of the organisations that uses spam filters is Microsoft Hotmail. A spam filter is
a program that is used to detect unwanted email and prevent those messages from
getting to a user's inbox. Like other types of filtering programs, a spam filter looks
for certain criteria on which it bases judgments. For example, the simplest and
earliest versions ,such as the one available with Microsoft's Hotmail. This can be set
to watch for particular words in the subject line of messages and to exclude these
from the user's inbox.

, Measures To Reduce Risk – Firewall

A firewall is a security system implemented in software or hardware that is used to prevent
unauthorised access to or from an intranet. A firewall is simply a program or hardware device
that filters the information coming through the Internet connection into your private network or
computer system. If an incoming packet of information is flagged by the filters, it is not allowed
through. A company can set up rules like this for FTP servers, Web servers, Telnet servers and so
on. Companies can control how employees connect to Web sites, whether files are allowed to
leave the company over the network and so on. A firewall gives a company tremendous control
over how people use the network. Like for example New Vic will place a firewall at every
connection to the Internet to keep them secured.
