1. FACTUAL
Practical Things
Can be current
Gives a candidate a chance to prove that he is aware of and sensitive to his environment.
E.g. The education policy of India, Tourism in India, State of the aged in the nation.
2. CONTROVERSIAL
, Argumentative in nature.
Meant to generate controversy.
Such topics check how much maturity the candidate is displaying without getting
personal and emotional.
E.g. Reservations should be removed, Women make better managers
3. ABSTRACT
Intangible things.
Test of lateral thinking and creativity.
E.g. A is a letter, the number 10
4. CASE BASED
Use of a case instead of a topic.
Tries to simulate a real-life situation.
Group will be asked to resolve the situation with the information given.
Objective is to think about the situation from various angles.
STRUCTURE OF A GD
› A group of candidates is given a topic or case for discussion.
› Normally groups of eight to ten candidates formed into a leaderless group, and are given
a specific situation to analyze and discuss within a given time limit
› The group sits in circle or U-shape
› They may either be given their choice of seat or seat allotted.
› The Evaluation panel observes and evaluates
