, Abstract
The study focuses on analyzing the relationship between the feelings of benign envy and work
performance of an employee. The purpose of this paper is to understand the extent, influence
and effect benign envy has on an employee’s work performance. The research data used to
analyze this study derives from Hong Kong, where 180 sales team employees filled out a survey
indicating the level of envy they experienced whilst working on the team. The main findings
of the research were that there was a correlation between benign envy and work performance.
The implications that result from this paper, are not just suitable to motivate further research
but are also practically ideal for both employers and employees as both parties can significantly
benefit from benign envy when it arises.
