1. Meaning: the structure is used to talk about a situation or action which is:
not likely to happen;
imaginary;
impossible;
unreal
The target structure is called the Second Conditional or the “Hypothetical Conditional”. This
type of conditional refers to an imaginary condition and its possible result in the present.
Here the time is past in the “if” clause an the present in the main one.
