Consequences of the Fall and Contemporary Response
Name: Sarah Caldwell
Course: CWV-101
Date: February 6, 2023
Instructor: Professor Vaughan
Be sure you answer Part One, Part Two, Part Three, and the Reference section of this assignment
before submitting.
Part One: Human Nature in Genesis 1-3 Use and cite at least two of the following topic Resources: textbook Chapter 4, Topic 3 Overview, "The Mystery of Original Sin" article, and Bible passages. Cite all of the resources used with in-text citations. Include all the sources you cite on a reference section at the end of
this document.
Based on at least two of the listed topic Resources, type your answer to the following questions in the box beneath each question. 1.What is revealed about human nature (from Genesis 1-2)? Cite and reference the textbook.
Your answer in 100-150 words:
In (Genesis 1-2), it explains how God created the universe, the heavens, and the earth. It also explains that God created all humans and living things. God created man in reflection of himself. (Genesis 2:18) reads, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” God believed that man should never be alone. He then created Eve, so that Adam would not be alone. Genesis also talks about how humans were created to follow and devote their lives to God’s wisdom. 2.What are the consequences of the fall for human nature (from Genesis 3)?
Your answer in 100-150 words:
In Genesis 3, Adam and Eve betrayed God. They disobeyed him and ignored his orders. For this, they were punished. This caused many consequences such as pain and suffering, to be incorporated into his later developed creations. This led to the fall of humanity. Genesis 3:16 reads “I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; In pain you shall brine forth children, your desire shall be contrary to your husband, but he shall rule over you.” Humans are still being punished for Adam and Eve’s actions. They were punished because
they disobeyed the orders of God, and had broken his trust.

Your answer in 100-150 words:
God wanted all individuals to live through him and his legacy. He wanted them to take care of what he had created. In the article, it states “He belongs in the center. Were God merely an outer boundary, we would be left with an inner boundlessness, and emptiness are the heart of things-left, that is, without any true organizing center for our lives” (Shuster 2013). If we are not giving our lives to God, we are unable to experience the spiritual, emotional, and mental well-being we will benefit from doing so. 4.How would pantheism or atheism (choose one) view human nature, human purpose, and human flourishing? Your answer in 100-150 words:
Atheism would view human purpose as self-created. They do not believe that their purpose
is to serve God. They believe that they are here to serve themselves and create their own purpose and their own development. Atheism believes that human nature is to be loving, kind, and helpful to others and to the earth. They would not seek guidance within God for any of these things. Atheism believes in scientific evolution and research, not God. They believe that they are to create their own purpose in life as well as have a part in their personal development. 5.The question, "How can an all-powerful, all knowing, and all good God allow suffering?" is called the problem of evil and suffering. Briefly summarize the Christian worldview's response to the problem of evil and suffering. Cite and reference the topic overview and/or the textbook.
Your answer in 100-150 words:
Sin became a part of the lives of humans when Adam and Eve betrayed God and broke his trust. God then banished them from the garden of Eden as a result of their sin. In the Topic 3 overview, it reads “war is evident about the fall that evil exists in the world because humanity has chosen poorly” (Topic 3 Overview). This is why it is to be believed that God
“allows” suffering and pain in his creations. The world today suffers great consequences due to Adam and Eve.
Part Two: Consequence of the Fall Today Select a Christian organization from the "Christian Organizations That Address a Consequence of the Fall" list provided in the topic Resources. Based upon your selection, research the issue that organization addresses. Use and cite at least two academic resources from the GCU Library. Cite all of the resources used with in-text citations. Include all the sources you cite on a reference section at the end of this document.
