Research report of Wembezi SAPS Introduction The Wembezi SAPS has dropped the standard of work that they had in the past and many older members have taken the option of early retirement due to the members feeling unappreciated and have a very low moral for work this is evident in the level of absenteeism in the workplace. Research problem statement Members at Wembezi have a very low moral at work. Older members have taken the decision to terminate employment by taking early retirement because they have lost the desire to work. There isn’t anything motivating employees to companies doing the job that they love so much. This station has a very high rates of absenteeism because members are frustrated and taking their frustrations out of the community that they are supposed to be serving. Members are turning to a life of crime due to their dissatisfaction. Wembezi SAPS is very under staffed and members are overwhelmed with the amount of work they have to do on a daily basis. 7 | P a g e STUDENT NUMBER: Research objectives Build the moral of the members by having team building programs Renegotiate the salary increase of the public sector. The working conditions of members needs to be fixed because members need a safe and secure environment Giving members what is due to them because we have members who have been in the same rank for more then 12years without being promoted. Providing members with all the equipment needed to perform their daily duties. Incentives in the sense overtime and time due. Recognition of good work in the form of a certificate Increase of manpower. Research method This study followed the quantitative approach in the form of a questionnaire that was issued to members and the community when since the work morale of a large number of employees at Wembezi SAPS was asked for. In quantitative research the research aimed to arrive at an understanding of facts from outsider’s perspective by maintaining a detached, objective view, which in this study was the measurement of employee morale and attitude towards work and the working environment of Wembezi SAPS. Research findings After conducting the research, I found that member truly feel unappreciated in the workplace due to the lack of interest shown by the supervisors and the employer. Members are overworked and under paid. I found members who had been in the same rank for more then 12 years whereas there have members with half their service in the same rank. Members of Wembezi SAPS are feeling neglected because their police station was declared unsafe buy the department of labour so they were removed and place in a small office where they all have to work with no social distancing during the COVID pandemic. Members find it easier to just book of sick and stay at home then to go to work. Because going to work has become a 8 | P a g e STUDENT NUMBER: strain for members. There are no incentives to motivate members and members are not recognised after doing a great job even if it is beyond the call of duty. The supervisor’s reprimands members in the community service centre infront of the public instead of calling the member into their office so members loose interest and loose the self-esteem. Recommendations I recommend the relief commanders have a team building exercise for the members in order to boost the moral of the members and for the members to communicate in an environment that is outside of the work place. Commanders need to recognise and award members who are doing good and encourage those that are not working hard to do so. Members need to be provided with all the equipment that they need in order to do their jobs. Members need to take their jobs more seriously. Members need to be spoken to with respect and the dignity of members need to be respected because we all know a happy employee is a productive employee. Conclusion The employees of Wembezi SAPS just need some positive attention in order to bring out the best in themselves because they love their jobs they are just unhappy in the work place so we just need to make the work place a place that brings smiles to the faces of the members. 5. PORTFOLIO ACTIVITY 3 Public relations issues The Department of Social Development The mission of the Department of Social Development is to enable the poor, the vulnerable and the excluded within South African society to secure a better life for themselves, in partnership with them and with all those who are committed to building a caring society. According to the news the department of Social Development are facing public relations of unfair and inefficient structural inequalities and the culture of privilege. 9 | P a g e STUDENT NUMBER: Another problem that the Department of Social Development is facing is that they a social institutional framework that is still under construction. 6. 2. INTRODUCTION

In this paper I will be compiling research proposals, developing a questionnaire and
research report for different organisations. I will be identifying public relations issues,
monitoring the media of an organisation, compiling a public relations plan and an
integrated marketing communication plan. I will also be doing crisis communication,
writing media releases, compiling a message for a Media conference, media
invitation for an event, newsletter article and biographies for the minister and
director-general of a government department. I will compile a check list for an event
and designing an invitation.

Research proposal

Overview of the organisation.

Wembezi SAPS is a small rural police station in the Midlands of KZN. The mission of
the South African Police Service (Wembezi SAPS), now known as the Department of
Police, is to prevent and combat anything that may threaten the safety and security
of any community, investigate any crimes that threaten the safety and security of any
community, ensure offenders are brought to justice, and participate in efforts to
address the root causes of crime in the community.

The SAPS’s strategic goals are to provide a police services that will be community
orientated in order to ensure safer communities by reducing the number crime in the
community.

Define the research problem.

Concerns have been raised about the work morale among employees of Wembezi
SAPS. According to the evidence collected the attitudes of employees are very
negative due to the dissatisfaction with the workplace. The members are
complaining about the low salaries within the department, the lack of promotions and
opportunities to grow within the department. The working conditions in which they
work are appalling the police station had to be declared unsafe by the department of
labour and was close now members work from an office which was turned into a
