My own intro for a gothic story based on a picture:
The cold castle was as still as. The foundations of despair make the castle tall.
Taller than the trees planted to confine him in solitude. As he will never leave.
The castles eery eyes keep watch over the abhorrent, dark land forcing
loneliness upon his soul.

The Victorian Era
In many ways, the Victorians the Victorians lived in a very confident lived in a
very confident society. The British empire extended over a vast area of the
planet. The industrial revolution brought factories, mines and machinery.
Towns grew rapidly. Steam trains and the royal mail made communication
easier. The people in the industrial revolution were aware that they were living
in a revolutionary time for mankind. As well as this, there had been significant
scientific and industrial experimentations and advancements. Many people
saw this scientific experimentation as an attack against religion. This is because
Darwin’s book made it impossible to believe that god created the world in
seven days.

Charles Darwin
Darwin put forward the theory that all life, including humans, has evolved from
primitive forms. The books release came at a time when many people saw
science and belief in religion and the supernatural at odds with each other. A
lot felt that they needed to choose between the two. And many believed that
science had become dangerous and was meddling in matters which only god
had control over.

Religion
The most dominant religion during the Victorian Era was Christianity, others
being Roman Catholicism, Anglican, Presbyterian-ism and Methodism. At some
point in the era, religious beliefs had been questioned numerously.
