Skills and qualities required of candidates applying for merchandiser
vacancy at TESCO PLC

Employability skills:

 Numeracy ─ ability to handle numbers, including the basic skills of addition,
subtraction, multiplication, division and percentages. Recruiters may also look for
the ability to gather and compile statistical data in various formats, and analyse,
interpret and present the data in a clear way.
 Experience ─ According to recent surveys and news, work experience is
becoming increasingly important to employers over education and degrees.
 Degree ─ Just under half of UK employers say the class of a graduate’s degree is
one of the most important factors they take into account when deciding who to
recruit for graduate schemes and jobs, according to a survey published this summer.
 IT skills ─ Almost all jobs now require some basic understanding of computer
hardware and software, especially word processing, spreadsheets, and email.
 Driving ─ a lot of companies nowadays do pay their workers for travel to their
working place, but there is some companies which prefer their workers to drive,
thus on interview or job application form employer may ask employee about
driving skills and license. This skill becomes important especially if your job in
company is related to driving.

Personal Skills:

 Teamwork ─ because so many jobs involve working in one or more work-
groups, you must have the ability to work with others in a professional manner
while attempting to achieve a common goal.
 Planning and organization ─ Deals with your ability to design, plan,
organize, and implement projects and tasks within an allotted timeframe. It’s also
involves goal-setting.
 Time management ─ Time management is important for any job role and
career success. It helps you to manage your time effectively and make the most of
it. Time management is usually a necessity in any job vacancy At TESCO PLC as
it determines the project completion time and scope.
 Excellent customer service skill ─ any company which is looking for
growth and good reputation must develop a good relationships with its customers.
In order to do that stuff workers must have excellent customer service skill, which
includes: patience, attentiveness, clear communication, knowledge of the products,
ability to use ‘’positive language’’, calming presence skill, persuasion skills,
tenacity and the most important – willingness to help.
 Problem solving ─ Involves the ability to find solutions to problems using your
creativity, reasoning, and past experiences along with the available information and
resources.
