“The Meeting”
Unable to see the light, I get up. Out of the only cosy thing around here, to get ready for the most
important day, of probably my whole life. The day I’ve been waiting for since the time I got my letter.
All those years of training, pain, and exhaustion all have lead to this one moment. The Meeting.
My roommates all knew what day it was, although I hadn’t said anything to them. I guess they have
never seen someone this excited to get to another day of training around here. Well, it’s hopefully
my last day. The last time I have to get out of this tiny bed, the last time I have to use the disgusting
communal bathrooms, the last time I ever have to eat the same exact thing for every single meal of
the day.
The last training session.
Freedom.
At last.
As I got into the elevator I hesitated, as the doors slowly closed on me. A shiver ran down my spine
as I pressed number 34. The unknown floor. The locked one. But it was finally the time to find out
what was behind floor 34. To hopefully leave hell and enter…. where is this? The dark, black elevator
encased within bricked walls flew out of a gap into… heaven.
The place I will be going to. The place I have been dreaming of. The one place that has brought me
all the way here.
Heaven.
I stared out the windows of the elevator as they spun me all the way to the top floor. The wind
swirling around me, the birds, singing in my ear. Butterflies crawling upon me. I’ve never seen such
beauty open to all the world. Hidden from us.
The elevator came to a sudden halt as it reached the last floor. Gravity dissapeared into the mist of
nowhere for what felt like the longest second of my life. As the elevator doors opened, I could see
the president and all of the Board members were sitting in one uncomfortably straight line. Their
heads all swung towards me as I stood still in the middle of the elevator.
“Welcome my dear!” Exclaimed the president. “Please come stand here and show us what you have
for us today.” I slowly approached the big black cross in front of the line of tables. All of my
equipment was set up to my left as the door shut with a loud bang to my right.
“I’m Four, here with my battle and archery training.” I said in a quiet and shaky voice.
“You may start,” said one of the Board members.
