NRNP 6645 Week 5 - Week 5 Discussion Analyzing Group Techniques Video: Interpersonal group therapy for addiction recovery demonstration Group Therapy Techniques were demonstrated in the video The interpersonal group therapy technique was demonstrated in the video. Group members shared and interacted with others regarding issues they are struggling with individually. Others offered moral and material support to help in the process of healing. People battling with addiction often experience isolation, which they need to break out from by learning to develop connections and demonstrate positive interactions. In this video, one group member shares how he used to steal medications from his ailing mum. The others listened actively, trying to reflect on the situation with him, and some shared their relatable experiences to make the protagonist feel comfortable (Cats Cats, 2016). One of the group members shared a relatable experience of stealing pension money from his grandfather. The individual sharing his experience stealing medications from his mother believes that people would not respect or want to associate with him when they learn what he did. However, the therapist and other members interact positively with him, assuring that no one would judge him for what he did in the past and that it is okay to share what he is struggling withlOMoAR cPSD| (Cats Cats, 2016). Opening up is breaking out of the isolation driven by his fears and insecurities that allowed his addiction to thrive. Jimmy says he wanted to share with the group members because he trusted them. Interpersonal group therapy is founded on trust and meaningful connections in a safe and constructive environment.
