1.1

1.1.1 Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) method improves learning
achievement and increases social skills. Students work together in collaborative
groups. Teachers who use this method present new academic content to learners
weekly, either through verbal presentation or text.

1.I the Grade 7, EMS teacher will introduce the following topic “Goods and
Services” to my learners. There after I will divide learners into groups of four
heterogeneous members. Each group will have a representative of different
genders, race/ethical group, high and poor achievers.

2. Group members will have to learn and master the topic Goods and services
(what it is, who provides Goods and services, the role of households as
consumers, identify consumer Goods and services, and explain the
importance of using goods and services resourcefully) they must learn this
by making use of their textbooks and the internet. Learners need to effectively
work together. I will ensure this happens by seating them closer to each other.
I will give each group only TWO textbooks, One media device, and ONE
worksheet. Learners need to understand the importance of working together,
contributing to the task, and assisting each other.

3. I will quiz learner’s biweekly, individually, on the topic Goods and Services.
Grade them based on the quizz and give improvement marks to each learner.
This improvement mark is not based on a learner’s complete mark but instead
on the degree to which the score exceeds a learner’s past averages. Example:
If a learner got 5/10 last week for explaining why it is important to use Goods
and services effectively, they will get an 8/10 (if their explanation and
understanding has improved).

4. learners with top scores, high progress scores will be acknowledged. I will
put the results on the notice board in our classroom for everyone to see and I
will give with them a “Top Achiever” badge for the week.

5. STAD is a cooperative strategy that encourages learners to take up
responsibility for themselves and other group members, learners will do this
because they want to be acknowledged.

1.1.3 The limitation to this method is that:

- some learners will not be comfortable in working within groups, I will give
them an important role in the group and assure them that their input is valued.

- Learners could waste time and not be doing the work, I will monitor them
closing by going to each group and asking for process.
