HelloClass, Academic(schoolsetting) In my academic setting, I currently use technology in every single class. I made the difficultdecision to return to school during the pandemic. When I finally returned to school, all classes wereonlineonly.Withallclassesbecomingvirtualonly,Ihavegreatlyimprovedmytechnologyskills.Oneofthe rules of practice for the academic setting is, that in some of my classes we are required to uselockdown browser when taking exams. Another rule of practice for the academic setting, is for thestudentstodressappropriatelyduringWebEx.Wealsomustmakesurethatwedonotuseourphones, keep our screen on mute unless we are told something different. We also must keep our cameras onduring class. Whether we are online or in-person learning, we still must use the honor code in allassignments and exams. Technology can be distracting in this setting for me when my children are alsohomedoingvirtuallearning.SometimesthiscanputatollonmyinternetserviceseventhoughIpayforthefastest speedsavailable. Professional(worksetting) In my professional setting, I would use technology for about 50% of the day. This can vary fromday to day. Working in the Pre-Admission Testing Department as a Medical Assistant, I had to place, allmedical information into the computer, call, fax, or email other doctor offices, or other hospitals toobtain patient’s information related to the surgery or procedure they are having. The rule of practice inthisprofessionalsetting, istoneverviolateHIPPAA.Anotherruleofpracticeinthisprofessionalsettingisto treat patients how you want to be treated in their situation. For Example, you are supposed to askyourself “ If you are that patient, would you trust you to take great care of you”? The only timetechnology can really be distracting in the professional setting is when it malfunctions, update newsoftwareormore training. Civic(CommunitySetting) In my civic setting, I would technology about 95% of the time. The pandemic has caused me tointeract in the community setting virtually for most things. The only time I have face-to-face or car-to-face interactions in the community is when I drop off food and clothes at different pantries. Attendingchurchvirtuallysincethepandemichasbeengreatformyfamilyasitisnotalwayseasytoattendchurchwith special needs children. The only time technology has been a distraction in thigs setting is when mychildren change the settings on Zoom during church services. Thankfully, most people do not commentonit. Personal(privatesetting) According to (Roach, 2018), the more we evolve into a technological society, the more ourbusiness dealings require technical information and the less effective we are at sharing information andreaching consensus. In my personal setting, I find myself using technology daily. Although I am rarely onsocial media, I do use technology in other forms. Technology has affected my personal/private setting.Sincethebeginningofthispandemic,Ihavebeenusingincorporatingtechnologyineverydaylife.Icomefrom a very big and old family. With many of my family members in the age of 80 years and up, I had tofind new ways to communicate with them while keeping them safe. I also had to adjust to the fact that95% of my children’s doctor’s appointments became and are still virtual. Technology becomes adistraction for me in this setting when I pick up my phone to check messages instead of washing dishesorgoing tobed. Conclusion While I can work with both old and new technology, I do prefer more of the older ways ofcommunicating. Whenever possible, I prefer to speak to people face-to-face. I also still send hand-written letters, call people on the phone, and leave voice messages when they are not available. Thelesson this week has challenged me to change my technology practices by making sure that I keepconnectedaccordingto(McLean,2018).Thiscanbedonebymakingcalls,emails,videochats,andothersafeways.
