9) Adaptations of a blue whale – a) Tail flukes and flippers for movement and direction in
the water. b) Nostril (blowhole) on the top of the head for breathing when swimming at
the surface. c) Baleen plate for filtering the sea water for small organisms. d) Thick
layer of fat under the skin, (blubber) to keep it warm.
10)Adaptations of a cactus - a) Leaves reduced to spines for protection and to avoid water
loss. b) deep roots branch near the surface to obtain rain water quickly.c) Water is
stored in the fleshy stem. d)The stem is covered in a waxy cuticle to prevent water loss.
11)Hibernation – To spend the winter in a resting state, when the body temperature is
much less than the normal active temperature.
12)Nocturnal animals – Animals which are active during the night.(bat, owl)
