Respiration and using
microbes
,Respiration
• Respiration = a reaction which occurs in all living cells. It releases
energy from food (glucose).
• Glucose + oxygen -> carbon dioxide + water + (energy)
• This reaction takes place in the mitochondria of cells.
• C6H12O6 + O2 -> CO2 + H2O
• C6H12O6 + 6O2 -> 6CO2 + 6H2O
, ATP
• ATP is a chemical that can contain the energy. The ATP is then
used by different parts of the cell when they require energy
• Uses:
• Active transport
• Living processes
