Technological & Business Model
Innovation
Lecture 1: Introduction & Basic Concepts
Business model = A tool that allows inventors to profit from their ideas and
invention
Value creation = “a series of activities that enable the user to recognize the
benefits he/she can gain out of the invention/innovation
Value capture = “being able to benefit from the value created by the
invention/innovation”
Innovation is the successful exploitation of ideas: invention wheel —> innovation car
Product- , service- & process innovation
Technological & Business Model Innovation 1
, Radical: i.e. personal computer, mp3
Lecture 2: Digitalization and Creative Technologies for Business
Development approaches
The different production approaches over time: craft production, design-driven production,
domain-driven production and mature engineering
Craft production
Design-Driven production
Domain-driven production
Mature engineering

Industry 1.0: From hand production methods to machines.
Steam engine in 1769 → Beginning of the first industrial revolution
Transition from predominantly agrarian and rural society to an industrial and
urban society.
2.0
Industry 2.0: Further advancements in manufacturing and production
technology.
- Electricity
- Mass Production: assembly line (Ford)
- Division of labor

Artificial Super intelligence: An intellect that is much smarter than the
best human brains in practically every field, including scientific creativity,
general wisdom and social skills.
In contrast to:
Technological & Business Model Innovation 3
, ANI: Artificial Narrow Intelligence = Also referred to as weak AI; relates to
machine intelligence that equals or exceeds human intelligence for a
particular domain, i.e. Chess or scrabble. (not part of industry 5.0)
