Freedom: Definition
The power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants. As in the state of not
being imprisoned or enslaved.
There are three types of freedom. Freedom is:
"Freedom from,” a freedom from the constraints of society.
“Freedom to,” a freedom to do what we want to do.
“Freedom to be,” a freedom, not just to do what we want, but a freedom
to be who we were meant to be.
o Freedom and it´s quality of life:
Freedom is crucial to life; it helps us live and thrives. It allows us to be
ourselves, which we can freely express. Therefore, those unfortunate citizens
are forced to live a life they do not like or believe is right. We are fortunate
enough to live in a country that provides freedom; America lets you be free!
Freedom lets us be free and improves the overall quality of our lives.
Without freedom, our lives would be boring, without expression. Living life to
the fullest makes life an opportunity instead of something you are forced to do.
Life is a gift, and you only get one shot, so live it to its fullest; you can do so
because of freedom. Thanks to freedom, we are lucky enough to make our
own choices and decisions.
We are allowed by law to decide where we go, what we do, and how we live.
The government makes laws and settles disputes, but with our opinion and
approval. As the government rules us, we must obey them, although we still
have freedom. The only time someone must do as they are told is by their law
enforcers because they are keeping lives safe.
Freedom of speech is a gift given to us by America. No matter who you are
talking to, you have the right to say anything; whatever you want to tell them to
express yourself. Nowadays, in America, at least, you can choose any religion
to worship. Honouring is important to religious people, so you are permitted to
worship in any way you like.
Self-expression makes us as a nation our original and unique selves. In
America, except for private institutions, we can express ourselves however we
please. People without a dress code can freely express themselves by
clothing, which America, in general, has no restrictions on. In conclusion,
everyone who lives in America is incredibly fortunate.
We have a good life quality, which we live to its fullest potential.
o There are many types of freedom, these are the most debated and
well known freedom around the world:
, Freedom of religion:
Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this
right includes freedom to change his religion or belief and freedom, either
alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his
religion or belief, in worship, teaching practice and observance
Freedom of decisions:
Participants understood independence as making their own decisions as well
as doing things for themselves and in their own way. Most understood
independence as the ability to make their own decisions freely and without
interference from other people. “It is the freedom to decide for ourselves.”
Freedom of speech:
'Freedom of speech is the right to seek, receive and impart information and
ideas of all kinds, by any means. ' Freedom of speech and the right to freedom
of expression applies to ideas of all kinds including those that may be deeply
offensive
Freedom of no restriction/government;
Only the freedom of thought, conscience and opinion are subject to no real
restriction. Each and every person is free to think what he or she likes without
fear of government interference so long as his or her opinions remain private.
Freedom of expression:
Freedom of expression refers to the ability of an individual or group of
individuals to express their beliefs, thoughts, ideas, and emotions about
different issues free from government censorship. The First Amendment of the
U.S. Constitution protects the rights of individuals to freedom of religion,
speech, press, petition, and assembly. Some scholars group several of those
freedoms under the general term “freedom of expression.”
Liberalism and Freedom
Liberalism is the idea that freedom should have priority among all our values.
Freedom in politics vs. Freedom from politics
Freedom can be protected under both democratic and non-democratic
governments, but under an unaccountable government protection is fragile.
Effective vs. Formal freedom
Formal freedom is what the state allows us to do or nor do. Effective freedom
is the conditions in which rights are excised. E.g. Freedom of speech.
Doing what is in ones interests vs doing what one wants
How far Governments and others go towards making you realize your true
interested? E.g. eating junk food/healthily.
