1. Review the competencies and discuss three that you believe the educator is
demonstrating. Support your discussion with clear examples from the video.
At the beginning of the video, the educator showed the competency, “Uses appropriate
voice tone and expression” (Algonquin College, 2009). This is shown when the
educator asks a child at the beginning of the video if he wanted a car and asks if he
wanted the one that was a big all-wheel-drive while making car noises. The educator
uses an appropriate tone by keeping the conversation fun and helpful. Another
competency shown would be “Displays affection toward children” (Algonquin College,
2009). This is shown when the educator is seen sitting on the floor with a child sitting
in her lap through the video, the educator also speaks with the children very warmly
and affectionately. The last competency shown is “Gets down to the children’s level
when interacting” (Algonquin College, 2009). Throughout the whole video, the
educator is shown to be sitting on the floor playing at eye level with the children.
2. What feedback can you provide to the educator in the video (both positive feedback
and things to work on)? Support your discussion with clear examples from the video.
One thing that the educator did that was very beneficial is acknowledge each child as
they spoke, the educator engaged in conversation and asked very specific questions
while speaking to them. By doing this, the educator ensured that the children were
continuously engaged in the activity while having them practice communication
