Tourism and its growth
Tourists are people who travel and stay in places outside their usual environemtn for at
least one not and not more then a year for leisure
The tourism sector is a group of production units in different industries that provide
consumption g/s demanded by visitors
Tourism is one of the fastest growing ecponomic sectors in the world
It is a key driver of social and economic development
Domestic tourist are those who travel at least 80km from home and stay overnight in
the country in which they live
Foreign touris come from other contries
The tourism industry
Tourism cant be classified as one industry i.e. it includes a range of services
The folliwng are all considered tourist industry:
a) Travel agencies
b) Touyr operators
c) Airlines
d) Accommodation of all types
e) Resturants
f) Souvenier shops

Reasons for growth of tourism
o Gloabalisation – people more familiar with travelling and different destinatios
o Improvements in travel
o Rise in per capita income – people have more to spend on holidays
o Worldwide advertising on the internet
o Awareness of the healkth benefits of recreation and leisure
o Increase in the number of low cost travel
