Hoi student!

Video lecture M1.1: What is culture?
1.1 Wat is cultuur?

Cultuur is erg lastig te definiëren. Hieronder staat de definitie uit het boek:
“… a unique meaning and information system, shared by a group and transmitted across generations,
that allows the group to meet basic needs of survival, pursue happiness and well-being, and
derivemeaning from life”

educated, industrialized, rich, and democratic) samples. Dit is uiteraard niet representatief voor de
mensheid.

cultuur is.

1. Machtsafstand (ENG: Power distance);

of vermijden.
Later voegde hij nog twee dimensies toe:
5. Langetermijn/korte termijn oriëntatie;

In de linkerafbeelding zie je hoe
Nederland scoort op de zes
dimensies van Hofstede ten
opzichte van Japan en de USA.

Op deze manier kan je landen dus
met elkaar vergelijken aan de
hand van de zes dimensies van
Hofstede.

“Individualism pertains to societies in which the ties between individuals are loose: everyone is
expected to look after himself or herself and his or her immediate family.”
“Collectivism as its opposite pertains to societies in which people from birth onwards are integrated
into strong cohesive in-groups, which throughout people’s lifetime continue to protect them in
exchange for unquestioning loyalty” (Hofstede, 1994, p. 51)

It's nice that the document is in Dutch, but it only contains notes from the slides and not from the book!!! :(

Hi Iris, what a shame that the summary was so disappointing... I incorporated all the information from the book that I found important into this summary and was able to get an 8.5. In principle, this summary should therefore be sufficient;)

Psychologie Tilburg University

Hey medestudent!
