Sentence
● Group of words that express a statement, question or wish
● Contain subject & main verb
● Eg. Susan and Joe ran home
Independent Clause
● Complete thought, stands alone
● Subject & finite verb
● Eg. Jimmy loves singing.
Subordinate Clause
● Not complete, cannot stand alone
● modify / additional information
● Eg. When he finished talking, he sat down.
Types of Sentences
Simple Sentence
● Independent
● Subject & finite verb
● Can contain compound subjects
● Can contain compound verbs
● Don’t contain subordinate clause or more than 1 clause
● Eg. Owls hunt at night.
Compound Sentence
● Two or more main clauses
● Joined by conjunction
