APEA PREDICTOR EXAM ASSIGNMENT GUIDELINES
PURPOSE
This assignment provides students with the opportunity to create their own case, act as leader, and to strengthen deficient areas of
knowledge noted on the APEA Predictor exam. Overall there are three main parts: Identification of areas for improvement in learning
identified through completion of the APEA Predictor Exam, The chief complaint work-up with meaningful discussion, and writing personal
exam questions. The purpose of this assignment is for learners to:
- Identify opportunities for improvement in foundational practice knowledge.
- Expand understanding of disease processes identified as opportunities (lower score areas) on the APEA predictor exam.
- Integrate knowledge and skills learned throughout all FNP courses.
- Demonstrate the ability to analyze literature and perform an evidence-based review of a specific disease, complaint, symptomatology,
differential diagnoses, and plan of care.
- Guide peers regarding the chief complaint work-up.
- Integrate feedback from peers regarding the chief complaint work-up.
- Demonstrate knowledge of identified area of practice by writing board certification-type exam questions
- Demonstrate professional communication and leadership, while advancing the education of self and peers.
Course Outcomes
This assignment enables the student to meet the following course outcomes:
Demonstrate effective leadership skills that support relationship-based caring with a patient-centered focus to promote quality advanced
practice nursing.
Apply current evidence in health promotion, health protection, disease prevention, and primary care for adults experiencing diseases.
Apply developmental, cultural, and family theory to health promotion, health protection, disease prevention, and primary care for infants,
children, adolescents, women, and child-bearing families.
Incorporate patients’ cultural preferences, values, health beliefs, spirituality, and behaviors into a holistic treatment plan
Create an appropriate and holistic plan of care for common primary care presentations for patients experiencing primary care disorders.
Engage in routine, appropriate interdisciplinary collaboration in caring for patients experiencing diseases encountered in family practice.

Reflect on personal and professional growth toward achieving competence as a family nurse practitioner.
Requirements
For Week 4 of the course there is no case study given to you by the faculty. Instead you will choose from one of systems identified on your
APEA predictor exam where you obtained the lowest score. You will research that area of content in relation to complaints and disorders that
commonly occur in family practice. You will work up a case study that begins with a chief complaint commonly seen in primary care based on
that system. The case should be clear and include all elements of a normal case that might be presented in class (subjective, objective,
assessment, and full 5 point plan). Your eLogs will be helpful for this process, or notes you have taken in clinical regarding cases. The case
needs to be clear, organized, and meet the following guidelines:
Week 4 Part 1: Due Tuesday by 11:59 p.m. MT
Step 1 Access the APEA-specific user name and login sent to you via email. See the following example.
