A TEFL employment agency named HaoJiao assists teachers in securing employment at
partner schools in Taiwan. Haojiao provides aspiring teachers with free job placement,
specialised training and professional support during their first contract abroad. Their service
ensures that teachers are placed in a suitable county and that they are equipped with the
appropriate mindset and essential tools required to excel as a TEFL educator.
HaoJiao has a responsibility towards their partner schools to hire teachers that possess the
desired skillset and attitude for the job. Fundamentally, ESL teachers are required to
demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills as well as strong self-motivation. It is crucial that
they are resilient enough to withstand the taxing experience of culture shock. Moreover, their
personality style should be compatible with Taiwanese culture in terms of avoiding
confrontation and adopting an attitude of compliance with regards to rules and regulations.
HaoJiao’s contract with their partner schools explicitly states that all teachers recruited need
to be responsible enough for preschool learners to be entrusted in their care. Teachers are
required to be competent in the field and confident in their abilities. They are also expected to
maintain a high level of professionalism and complete the full term of their employment
contract, in spite of the challenges that living abroad may pose.
Candidates who demonstrate high levels of self-awareness and flexibility are proven to be the
most successful in the ESL field. Humility, integrity and equanimity are the three pillars that
guides HaoJiao’s recruitment process. These are the qualities that are most desirable in the
minds of their client schools. HaoJiao is essentially looking for candidates who are meaning
makers; individuals who will establish meaningful relationships with students and colleagues
alike, and who will find their teaching journey rewarding even in the most trying times.
The first step of the recruitment process is screening. Haojiao has requested that our
psychometric agency, Notable Notes, create two measures to assess aspiring teachers’
suitability for this employment opportunity. The first measure should ascertain the reliability,
interpersonal skillset and general resilience of potential candidates. Candidates who pass the
