Case Study › Sally Jones, age 65, presents to the clinic with complaints of right knee pain and stiffness that is worse in the morning or when standing after sitting for a period of time. She also complains of muscle weakness in the right thigh, difficulty walking, and difficulty with dressing. › In her younger days, Sally enjoyed running long distances and routinely ran 5K and Half Marathon races. › Sally is a retired hairdresser and since retirement she has developed a more sedentary lifestyle. › Sally has a BMI of 32 kg/m2. › After physical assessment and medical imaging, Sally is diagnosed with Osteoarthritis of the right knee. Pharmacologic Treatment for Osteoarthritis (OA) › With medication prescribing, NPs must prescribe appropriately in order to prevent patient injury from adverse drug events (Dreischulte & Guthrie, 2012). › For Sally, we must perform a thorough subjective and objective assessment to identify factors that may lead to highrisk prescribing.
