Intro

School schedules, everyone has it. At the Jac.P.Thijsse college in Castricum it is a little bit different
than other schools in the area. There is a 40-minute schedule, which means shorter lessons. But does
this give the students better grades and a better school experience. Yes, it does! More schools should
take example of this schedule.

Alinea 1 in favour

Firstly, when lessons are forty minutes, most of the children stay focused. Usually classes come in
double hours, which means 80 minutes. For 80 minutes you can maintain your focus and
concentration much better than classes which last for 100 minutes.

Alinea 2 in favour

Furthermore, there is a possibility to educate yourself even more. Every day there is an hour where
you can voluntarily go to school and practice for a subject. Every subject has their own days and
students are allowed to come whenever they want to learn more or just to take some time to finish
of homework and learn for tests.

Alinea 3 against

In contrast to all these advantages the students have, there is also a small setback. In the afternoon
there is an hour, blok 3, where you learn other stuff about the subject. The downside is that this does
not always supplement the topic that you are learning in the regular classes. This hour is mandatory
and it changes every 3 weeks, which means that students with jobs have to change their
workschedule or cancel their work, while that is not always possible.

Alinea 4 refutation

Nevertheless, it is possible to register yourself for classes, which means you have the choice to pick a
day in the week, which is the most suitable for you. Some teachers do continue with the topic that
you learn in the regular lessons, which makes you understand the curriculum you have to learn for
tests even better!


Alinea 5 conclusion


All things considered, this schedule improves the lessons of students. They maintain their focus
longer and because you change of subject every 40, or 80 minutes, you have fresh attention in every
lesson you enter! May you have a noisy class or your teacher does not always understand your
questions, there is always the choice to a blok 1 in the mornings with your own or another teacher.
This schedule is a great improvement of the learning environment for students.
