Compound Wound DC Generator
Objective: -
The load test is performing on a Compound Wound DC generator to know
mainly how its terminal voltage changes with electrical load.
Required Modules:
1. DC machine with a coupled prime mover (the speed of prime mover can be changed by
changing voltage at its input)
2. DC Ammeter
3. DC Voltmeter
4. Variable load resistance
5. DC power gauge
DC Compound Wound Generator:
In Series wound Generators, the output voltage is directly proportional with load current.
o Series = Less Turn
In Shunt wound Generators, the output voltage is inversely proportional with load current.
o Shunt = More Turn
A combination of these two types of generators can overcome the disadvantages of both. This
combination of winding is called Compound wound DC generator.
Compound wound generators have both series field winding and shunt field winding. One
winding is place in series with the armature, and the other is place in parallel with the
armature.
