E. Biakolo identified 5 (five) categories of cross-cultural cognition which he
claims are often used to distinguish Africans from Europeans, which he
calls the African condition. Give a detailed discussion of any three pairs of
the categories, indicating where you agree and disagree and why you do so.

In your discussion explain what Biakolo understood to mean by cross-
cultural cognition and the purpose it served in what he argued to be an
“African Condition”
Statement:
Biakolo (2002: 38) describes how the Western World perceived non-Caucasian
racial groups. 1Since the fifteenth century, the Western World has interacted
with these non-Caucasian races and has made an effort to understand these
alien-seeming individuals. 2
Therefore, Biakolo's contribution accomplishes two goals. He begins by
presenting and analyzing the Western world's descriptions in order to make sense
of the non-Caucasian races.3 Second, he assesses whether the solutions offered
by the West help to clarify and comprehend the situation in Africa. 4 “Cross-
