BONES OF HUMAN BODY:
BONES OF UPPER LIMB:
`1. CLAVICLE:
SPECIALITIES:
- It is the only long bone lying horizontaly.
- It is the first bone to start ossifying.
- It is subcutaneous throughout.
- It has 2 primary ossifying centres.
SIDE DETERMINATION :
- Its shaft is curved so it is convex forward in its medial part and its lateral one-
third is concave forward.
- Medial end is large and quadelateral and lateral end is flat.
- Its inferior surface is grooved longitudinally in its medial third and the lateral
half of this surface has a longitudinal subclaaian groove .The nutrient foramen
lies at the lateral end of the groove. .
GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS :
- Its shaft is interwining.
- It gets commonly fractured when fall on outstretched hand.
- It’s medially convex forward and laterally concave forward.
- It is also called “collar bone “.
- It is in the “shape of a key “.
ATTACHMENTS ;
AT MEDIAL END (TWO-THIRDS):
- Its margin of the articular surface for the stemum gives attachment to:
- a. Fibrous capsule of sternoclavicular joint all around.
- b. Articular disc posterosuperiorly.
