LSK3701 Life Skills: Science And Technology In Foundation Phase Assignment 02 2022. Chosen book: A Seed is Sleepy by Dianna Aston, Illustrated by: Sylvia Long 1. This is a children’s book that can be taught to Grade R learners. It is an illustrated text that teaches children about seeds. The book teaches children about the origin of seeds and what flowers can form from those seeds and it ignites the love for seeds. The author/illustrator team make us realize that seeds are beautiful, fascinating and utterly worthy of our attention and appreciation. In the beginning, a seed is sleepy (and secretive), lying untouched and still, but soon it is fruitful and adventurous - spreading out and growing. The front inside cover pages show many, many seeds ranging from the very small to the big--then the back inside cover pages show the plants that sprout from the seeds. Between those pages is a glorious exploration of many different types of seeds that float on air or water, seeds that are tiny as a freckle, seeds that can need the sun and those that do not , seeds that take but days to begin to grow, seeds that will grow after thousands of years. Science themes are discussed thoroughly in this This study source was downloaded by from CourseH on :20:46 GMT -05:00 book and children in Grade R will get to learn about the life of plants and how they come to be. 2. The CAPS Social Science big idea that can be incorporated into my theme plan is conservation. I chose this idea because plants are living organisms that need to be protected and conserved so that they may survive for years to come. This book works best for this theme as it teaches children about seeds and how they grow into different plants. If the children know about the seeds then they can understand how taking care of seeds and plants are important for conservation. 3.
