The Rodri’s project is taken from the January 2021 ITSD controlled assessment and was used as a
project simulation, as this was the only way to complete the unit. In Assignment 1, we explored the
different methodologies and their differing but similar characteristics. We also looked at the team
structures of a project management team.
In Assignment 2, we used Rodri’s to carry out a project initiation, in which we researched and
evaluate two possible solutions to solve the problem. We identified the risks, constraints, and
methods of mitigation. Next, we prepared a feasibility study which included and introduction to the
project and its overall description of requirements, specification and identifies success criteria
selecting the preferred solution.
In the second part of Assignment 2, we put together a feasible plan of actions for the simulation,
planning for a 3 week execution. The plan was used for monitoring and control for a phase schedule
to ensure an effective management process, as can be seen in the planning documentation. As this
was a simulation, we were unable to experience the project for ourselves. This meant we did not
come across any flaws or issues during the implementation. Very few projects go to plan, but we like
to think most things did and any eventualities would have been covered in the mitigation of risks.
These include tasks taking longer than expected, equipment being damaged and not enough staff
being hired.
Reflection
Looking at my own performance at completing the work, I feel I have completed the documentation
to a high standard. This was achieved by carefully planning out the tasks that needed to be done.
This ensured that my progress was up to date and prevented me from falling behind. It also gave me
goals to work towards each day and provided a sense of achievement. By planning each task like
this, I was encouraged to do more the next day and the day after that until I had finished the overall
goal.
The second skill I used while working on this project was research. I had to investigate how many
organisations, that are similar to Rodri’s, were in Bath. This was important to know because there
could have been many restaurants in the area and that could mean Rodri’s losing out on customers. I
also had to research the equipment they might use within the organisation. This was needed to find
the price of the gadgets they want in their building. With this, it gave an idea of the price range of
the solution to their start up.
The next skill I used during this project was risk management. I needed to be able to see what parts
of the project could go wrong and account for them. If this was not done, it would be very naive to
think the project will go 100% to plan and the team will be unprepared to deal with all the
unforeseen circumstances that may occur. It was imperative that when it went wrong, I was able to
adjust the plan efficiently to make sure everything gets done in time.
Another skill I used during this project was problem solving. I used this skill to come up with many
solutions and narrow them down to the most realistic ones. Taking into consideration the financial,
technical and practical aspects of it. If problem solving skills were not used during the development
of the solution, it would be very difficult to create and structure a way for Rodri’s to make their
business more efficient.
