Procedural Checklist in
UNOCCUPIED BED MAKING

General Objective:
Given actual or simulated situations/conditions, the students will be able to systematically
demonstrate unoccupied bed making.
Specific Objectives:
1. To provide clean and comfortable bed for the patient
2. To reduce the risk of infection by maintaining a clean environment
3. To prevent bed sores by ensuring there are no wrinkles to cause pressure points

0.50 Satisfactory Performed the procedure but requires close supervision and shows
potential for improvement.
0.25 Needs Failed to perform the procedure, unable to function well and needs
Improvement repeated specific/ detailed guidance or direction.
CRITERIA:
I. Skills – 40% 1.0 0.75 0.50 0.25 Remarks
1. Proper hand washing. Don gloves.
2. Collect linens and place them on a clean surface (bottom
sheet, rubber sheet, draw sheet, top sheet, and pillow case
then flip over).
3. Adjust bed to a comfortable working height.
4. Strip the bed.
• Check bed linens for any items belonging to the patient,
detach the call bell or drainage tubes from the bed linen.
