, Abstract
This study demonstrates the concept of sustainability – as it is important to the
Portuguese Hotel Industry in a Post Pandemic future. The major purpose of this study is
to examine the importance of sustainability for the Portuguese hotel industry in a post
pandemic future. It also aims to observe the pre-covid sustainable practices of hotels in
Portugal and evaluate the current situation of hotel sustainability and single use plastics
that have become necessary as a result of the pandemic. It gives more understanding of
the concept. Besides, the current study seeks to include the examination of travel
motivation and whether sustainable hotel practices will influence customer’s decisions to
increase the reliability of information and to support the concept. This study has used
secondary as well as primary data collection methods for using two case studies and
sample size of 8 participants in survey. For the conclusion, the results indicates that
Portugal has practiced pre-covid sustainable techniques for the sustainability and
productivity of the hotel and tourism industry. Afterwards, due to the crisis of covid-19,
Portuguese hotel industry faced various challenges and banned the use of plastic for
enhancing sustainability. Furthermore, in order to enhance the crisis and influence
customer’s decision, hotel industries started using techniques such as safety measures,
promotions, offers, etc. to attract travelers.
