Aid Dependency
The provision of aid to developing countries helps in the growth of the world economy
and the promotion of development within a region. It assists in the evolution of markets, and
providing aid to a country may translate to the expansion of goods and resources that can be
shared. However, as an aid to a country can have its benefits, it could also have its adverse
negative effects.
Foreign aid can create a scenario of aid dependence where it plays a significant role in
shaping the economy and politics of the recipient country. You will find that most of the
available financial capital in any developing country will come from outside its borders. When a
scenario like this exists, the government will not develop itself and tap into its resources for
production and development.
Foreign aid will create poverty through the economic institutions that block the incentive
and opportunities of the developing countries to make things better for themselves. The countries
receiving the donors will be too dependent on the donor states that they will not find or develop
their survival means as they are getting help from outside sources. This is against the survival for
the fittest principle, which will increase the rates of corruption and political pressure.
