Technology is playing an important role at all levels of education. It greatly improves and
facilitates the transfer of knowledge, which allow teachers to design quality teaching and
learning. Design a learning activity wherein you are going to use the technology to:

LEARNING ACTIVITY USING TECHNOLOGY

Activity: Hunt for QR codes

Grade Level: 6/7

The class will be split into groups of 2-4 and will embark on a ‘treasure hunt’ for QR codes
hidden around the school. Each QR code will contain questions or clues. As the educator, I
will prepare a list of questions from topics that I want my students to learn/revise – then I will
generate a QR code for each question/topic and place these around the school.

Only 1 student per team will use their tablet or cell phone. All students will download a QR
code reader first. QR codes are decoded as text files, therefore no internet connection is
necessary.

Each team will work together to find the answers of the questions they find and the group
that brings the most number of correct answers back to their classroom, wins. Once all
students return to the classroom, a lesson will be presented via PowerPoint. Each question
will be revised and students will write the question and answers in their workbooks.

(a) Improve teamwork

Students will use their tablets or a cell phone.

• Two reasons for choosing the technological tool(s).

QR codes are only able to be read using a camera and a QR code reader. Therefore,
students need some sort of device which is able to decode a QR code. Scanning a QR
code around their school ensures they are familiar with the school grounds and are
able to follow clues. This activity also helps students outside of the classroom as a lot
of places have now resorted to using QR codes for price lists, menu’s, etc, due to
COVID-19 no-touch policies.

• Three different ways on how the tool(s) will be used to improve teamwork.

The students will have to work together – one person will scan the QR code while
another student writes down the question. The team will then sit together and come
up with an answer they think is correct. The students will take turns to scan the QR
code so they all learn how to scan one. By the students having to work together to
