Question 1: Facts:

A researcher shows 4-10 stimuli of different intensities to Peter one at a time. At each trial Peter has
to respond if he was able to detect the stimulus or not. Which of the Fechner’s psychophysical
methods for determining the absolute threshold of a stimulus has been used in this experiment?

a. Method of adjustment
b. Method of limits
c. Method of constant stimuli

Answer: c

a. During the method of adjustement, the participant himself has to adjust the stimulus
intensity until he can barely detect the stimulus which will than be considered as the
threshold. This is not the case in this experiment.
b. In the method of limits, the experimenter presents stimuli in either ascending order or
descending. The subject must also indicate whether the stimulus can be detected or not.
If the subject can no longer detect the stimulus, the threshold has been reached and is
determined by the crossoverpoint.
c. In the method of constant stimuli, the stimulus intensities are presented in a random order
and the subject has to respond on each trial if they perceive it by ‘’yes’’ or ‘’no’’.
This is a fact question because the student only has to reproduce the learned material (the
definitions of the 3 methods).

Question 2: Facts:

Which structure of the eye is indicated by the arrow?

a. Retina
b. Fovea
c. Cornea

Answer: c

This is a fact question because the student only needs to reproduce the already learned material
(basic anatomy of the eye).

, Question 3: Understanding

Which statement about the pictures below is correct?

a. Picture (a) shows a form of deuteranopia.
b. Picture (b) shows a form of tritanopia
c. Picture (c) shows a form of deuteranopia.

Answer: c

In deuteranopia which is also called green-blind, the medium wavelength sensitive cones (green) are
missing at all. A deuteranope can only distinguish 2 to 3 different hues, whereas somebody with
normal vision sees 7 different hues.

This is an understanding question because the student needs to fully understand the three concepts
and link the pictures to each own of them to be able to answer the question.

damaged. Sarah suffers from visual agnosia.

b) Sarah suffers from optic ataxia and is unable to grasp properly because the how/where route is
damaged
