Explain how products and processes have to be adapted for
international markets by a selected business

Introduction

In this assignment I will talk about how McDonalds have adapted their products and processes in
different countries. I will also talk about the strategies the business uses when conducting
international trade as well as the resources McDonalds will use.

McDonalds

McDonalds is an international business which was first founded in 1940 by Richard and Maurice
McDonald in the US. The countries that McDonalds operate in includes the US, Canada, Puerto Rico,
Costa Rica, Japan, UK and much more. McDonald’s aim/objective includes making sure they serve
“quality food that consumers can rely on”. This is important for the business because by having an
aim/objective, it can help guide McDonalds to the right direction as each employee will be
motivated to achieve greatness and succeed. McDonalds main vision is making sure their own
customers have a favourite place and a good way to eat their food with inspired staff members who
captivates and serves quality/value every time. McDonalds is in the primary, secondary and tertiary
sector. This is because McDonalds will get all the raw materials then in the secondary sector, they
will turn the materials into products and then finally in the tertiary sector they will sell their products
to consumers. The business first started out as a hamburger stand but then became a franchise with
their symbol called the Arches logo. McDonalds is known to have about 36,000 stores in 119
different countries as well as serves about 54 million people every day.

McDonald’s product portfolio includes hamburgers, chicken nuggets, cheeseburgers, French fries,
milk shakes, salads, wraps and much more. The Filet-o-fish burger was the first product that
McDonalds used to sell. McDonalds is known to be a franchise where they will give a license to
someone in order to run their business as well as help them with their branding and making their
business popular. An advantage of McDonalds franchising their business is that the people who own
it will help increase their brand awareness by making sure each of the staff members are being
productive and are generating sales growth. In addition, franchising can effectively grow your
business as there will be more advertising and promotion involved speeding the growth quicker
which can lead to an increase of customer loyalty for McDonalds. McDonalds is also part of a
subsidiary business because it’s owned by the parent company which has 50% of more of its shares.
For example, some of the subsidiaries includes McDonald’s Canada, McDonald’s Australia,
McDonald’s Pakistan and much more.
