Ionic bond - Electrostatic attraction between oppositely charged ions
● Formed between metals and non-metals
● Very strong
● Non-metals always gain electrons
● Metals always lose electrons
● Metal - A substance that will lose an electron
● Groups 1-3 lose electrons
● Groups 5-7 gain electrons
● Be,B,C and Si don’t normally form ions
○ Too much energy is required
