What is computational thinking?
Computational thinking is a way to problem solve while following a certain format that format being
decomposition, pattern recognition, pattern generalisation and abstraction and finally
representation of problem elements.

Decomposition is breaking down a task into smaller problems

Pattern recognition is seeing if there are any patterns in the smaller tasks

Pattern generalisation is grouping different tasks pattern abstraction is seeing all the difference in
the tasks

Finally, representation of problem elements is finding the relations between different problem
elements.

What is computational decomposition?
Decomposition is taking a task and separating it into smaller tasks that can be completed easier
compared to trying to complete a whole task at once.

Computational Thinking – Pattern Recognition
Describe here the meanings of identifying patterns, with an example from your research

Identifying patterns consists of different steps the first two are identifying any common occurrences
between the two where they be words or any different elements that are repeated.

The other three steps are mainly about identifying the individual elements and describe the
individual and group patterns then you have to make predictions on what any other future patterns
may be.

Computational Thinking – Pattern Generalisation and Abstraction
When removing unnecessary information you have to first identify if that information is a part of any
reoccurring patterns or if that piece of information is an individual pattern that holds any
information that you need to know you can do this by comparing it to other patterns and their
format throughout out other problems that have common or individual patterns.

Computational thinking

Advantages
Computational thinking comes with benefits that other ways to problem solve do not have one of
the most beneficial ones is the fact that this problem solving method allows the user to easy break

,apart a problem and present themselves with multiple smaller problems to tackle that are fairly
easier compared to the overall project and it also gives the user an amount of steps that they need
to follow in order to complete their problem and in turn result in an easier work load overall and the
problem being solved faster, simpler and more effective as a whole.

Another benefit that comes with computational thinking is that it is able to help the user in terms of
recognising different problems and allowing them to be grouped accordingly this would mean that
the user has a easier time locating and fixing any problems that they might have while still producing
a working and functional answer to the whole problem one step at a time, this would also give the
user a more accurate way of recognising how long a task may take him and then how long the whole
project would take them this is beneficial to the user and the client as they would be able to get a
more accurate time as to when their project may be completed.

Disadvantages
The disadvantages that come with using computational thinking is that there are a lot of process to
come to the final result which can be a lengthy process due to the fact that breaking up the problem
into so many different smaller problems and tasks this would not be suitable for short task or
problems and this could only be used effectively in a scenario where the main problem that needs to
be solved is an in depth, long and complicated problem that needs to be broken down to come to a
correct solution.

Also when it comes to the stage of computational thinking where the problems need to be
categorised and separated in to different sections and categorise so they can be tackled and dealt
with in a more efficient manner this can be a problem for someone who is not very adept and used
to solving any similar problem and could cause for the grouping of the task to be completed
incorrectly.

Overall computational thinking is a very good way to solve problems and is something that I would
recommend to the majority of people when they need to solve something because of how flexible as
well as how easy it is to use in a lot of different scenarios and situations and the processes in which it
is used is very good however, it is not something that I would recommend to everyone because it
would not be suitable in some situations as it would make solving the problem more difficult than it
needs to be it could also do the opposite and make the problem solving process more difficult than it
was initially, compared to what it is meant to be doing.
